  Over the past fifty years, screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière has enjoyed one of the most illustrious careers in French cinema. Often stylistically inventive and thematically subversive, his wide-ranging body of work includes collaborations with a who’s who of international auteurs, including Luis Buñuel, Jean-Luc Godard, Nagisa Oshima, and Miloš Forman. Carrière, who just turned eighty-five this weekend, once said: “You cannot imagine how much I have worked in my life. It is frightening.
