With a string of low-budget feature films and shorts, brothers Josh and Benny Safdie have injected an anarchic energy into American independent cinema, bringing the grit and intensity of their native New York to the big screen. In the latest episode of Meet the Filmmakers, a series on the Criterion Channel on FilmStruck in which exciting artists turn the camera on their filmmaker peers, director Michael Chaiken drops in on the duo while they are in the process of working on their new thriller Good Time, which has since become one of the most acclaimed films of the year. Interweaving behind-the-scenes footage and intimate encounters off set, the documentary opens a window onto their private world, in which family life and filmmaking are deeply interconnected.
