Agnès Varda’s Closet Picks

VIDEO

With over sixty years of filmmaking behind her, Agnès Varda is still finding fresh ways of exploring the art form. After shifting focus to her multimedia work in recent years, the nouvelle vague pioneer struck up a close friendship with French photographer and artist JR, with whom she made Faces Places, a heartwarming new documentary that delves into creative inspiration, mortality, and the power of image-making. In celebration of the film’s recent premiere at the New York Film Festival and its opening at the Quad Cinema this week, we’re looking back on Varda’s trip to our office during a visit last year. In the above video, she brings her trademark warmth and charm to our closet, lavishing love on favorites such as Jane Campion’s Sweetie and An Angel at My Table, Abbas Kiarostami’s Taste of Cherry, and Jean-Luc Godard’s Band of Outsiders.
